Senators Cash In During 5-2 Win Over Portland

Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators came up with clutch hits in a 5-2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs, Sunday at Commerce Bank Park. They scored their five runs on just four base hits and struck for a pair of two-out rallies.

The Senators struck for three runs on just one hit in the bottom of the 1st inning. Mike Daniel and Seth Bynum drew back-to-back walks and Ofilio Castro followed with a two-run double. He went to third on a throwing error and scored on Bill Rhinehart's RBI groundout to make it 3-0.

The Sea Dogs got on the board in the 3rd. Juan Apodaca drew a leadoff walk and scored when Zach Daeges lined a double down the right-field line, making it 3-1. LHP Cory VanAllen hit a batter to load the bases, but induced an inning-ending double play to get out of the jam with no further damage.

In the 4th, Portland's Jorge Jimenez doubled down the right-field line. Two batters later, Iggy Suarez doubled to left-center to cut it to a 3-2 margin.

The Senators tacked an insurance run in both the 5th and 7th innings. Marco Yepez ripped a two-out single went to second on a balk and scored on Jemel Spearman's bloop single to left, making it 4-2.

In the 7th, Edgardo Baez drew a two-out walk. Marco Yepez drilled a double to the warning track in center to extend the lead to 5-2.

LHP Yunior Novoa delivered three hitless innings in relief to pick up the win and move to 2-1. LHP Tim Bittner grabbed the save, his fourth. Portland LHP Kris Johnson took a hard-luck loss to drop to 8-9.

The Senators improved to 70-65. Portland fell to 70-61.

The Senators play their next game Tuesday on the road against the Erie SeaWolves (Double-A Detroit Tigers). Starting pitchers are to be announced.
