York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution dropped the opening game of their nine-game road trip 5-2 to the Long Island Ducks in front of 5,511 fans at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, NY on Thursday night. The Revs were done in by a pair of homers from former big leaguer Lew Ford and six shutout innings by lefty Shane Youman. The Revs, still in first place by half a game in the second half, will look to get even in the series on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.

Ford blasted solo shots in the second and fourth innings to spot Long Island a 2-0 lead which Youman made stand up. The lefty retired the first eight batters faced, and worked out of trouble in each of his final four innings, stranding eight runners total.

York's best chances to score came in the fifth and sixth when they had second and third with one out in each inning, but Youman managed to keep them off the board.

Revs lefty Chris Cody kept the game close working out of trouble on multiple occasions himself. Cody allowed a double to Matt Esquivel with still no outs following Ford's second homer in the fourth, but stranded him at third to keep it a two-run game. Then with the bases loaded in the fifth, Cody retired Ford on a 4-6-3 double play squelching that threat.

The Ducks plated three big insurance runs in the home seventh, however. Dan Lyons led off the inning with a bloop double and scored on an error to make it 3-0. Javier Colina then roped an RBI double to center and Esquivel smacked a ground single up the middle driving in their final runs.

The Revs broke up the shutout bid in the ninth as Octavio Martinez (3-for-3) led off with a double to left-center, Scott Grimes drew a walk, and Val Majewski ripped an RBI single up the middle. Ramon Castro then lined a sac fly to center bringing York within 5-2, but Ducks reliever Ehren Wassermann ended the game with a double play grounder, preventing the tying run from coming to bat in the final inning.

Youman (5-0) earned the win, allowing five hits and two walks in his six innings while striking out seven. He still has allowed just one run all season in 35.1 total innings for a 0.26 ERA.

Cody (8-5) suffered the loss despite allowing just two runs in his six innings of work.
