
Crabs Sign Jiannetti

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
Waldorf, MD - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs bolstered their offense yesterday by signing veteran infielder Joe Jiannetti to a contract yesterday afternoon.
Jiannetti is an 11-year veteran who played in the Atlantic League with Bridgeport last season where he hit .326 in 108 games. The Tampa, FL native has also had stints with York, Newark, and Atlantic City, along with time in the Golden and Can-Am Leagues.
Before entering independent ball, Jiannetti was a 40th round draft choice of the New York Mets in 2001 where he worked his way up to double-A Binghamton in 2004. He is a career .294 hitter with 100 homeruns and 499 RBI entering 2011. His best season was in 2006 at Atlantic City where he hit .319 with 21 homers and 79 RBI in 119 games played.
Jiannetti made his Blue Crabs debut last night by going 1-5 with a single.
Southern Maryland and Somerset will square off in game two of a three-game series Friday at 7:05. The Blue Crabs will send righty Michael Schlact (4-1, 4.02 ERA) to the hill against southpaw Derrick Gordon (6-0, 1.60 ERA) of the Patriots. The game can be heard on www.somdbluecrabs.com.
