Revs' Finale in Southern Maryland Suspended After Five Innings

August 20, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs played to a 1-1 tie through five innings before heavy rain forced the suspension of Thursday's contest. Play will be resumed at the beginning of the sixth inning when the Revs return to Waldorf, MD on Friday, September 11th. York concludes its rain-shortened seven-game road trip with a 5-2 record, sitting within 2.5 games of first place in the Freedom Division, and returns home to host the Somerset Patriots in the first of a three-game series on Friday night.

York scored its run in the top of the second inning as Telvin Nash slammed a home run to straightaway center. Once the game is completed and statistics from the contest are attributed, it will count as Nash's fifth home run of the season and third on the Revs' road trip.

Revs starter Matt Neil worked a scoreless first two innings, but allowed an unearned run to tie the game in the bottom of the third. Casey Frawley led off with a single to left. Keith Castillo then grounded a one-hopper back to Neil off a fake bunt, but Neil's throw to second sailed high and into center field, placing runners at first and third after the error. Antone DeJesus followed with a soft bounce out to second base, scoring Frawley to tie the game at 1-1.

The groundout from DeJesus began a stretch of nine consecutive batters retired to conclude Neil's five innings, as the righty allowed just one hit on the night. He walked none and struck out three.

Neil completed a 1-2-3 fifth inning by striking out Castillo, mere moments before heavy rains fell as the tarp was being pulled, allowing the game to be suspended at its current juncture rather than being rained out.

The Revs totaled five hits offensively. In addition to the home run from Nash, James Simmons went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles out of the ninth spot in the order. Luis De La Cruz went 1-for-2 with a fifth inning single, one night after a 4-for-4 performance. Leadoff man Jose Constanza had the other hit for York, a single to left-center on the first pitch of the game. Constanza would advance to second on a ground out and steal third before being stranded.

Crabs righty Brian Grening worked all five innings in the start. Grening walked just one and struck out three, and retired seven straight at one point.

It is just the second suspended regular season game in Revs history. The other was a 5-3 home loss to the Blue Crabs on June 3, 2008, suspended in the top of the sixth and completed the next day. York also had a postseason game suspended due to rain in Lancaster in 2012.

The Revs remain 22-17 in the second half, having won both series on their road trip including the final two of the rain-shortened three-game series in Southern Maryland. The Revs return home on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. as York lefty Rommie Lewis (9-8, 3.56) faces Somerset right-hander Will Oliver (1-1, 3.46) in the series opener against the Patriots. The night features a Revolution Cap Giveaway presented by Stambaugh Plumbing & Heating to the first 1,000 fans. It is also a Guaranteed Win Friday presented by Commonwealth Connections Academy. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
