'Fish Add Infielder Valdez

(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 20, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of middle infielder Jeudy Valdez.

"We're excited to have Jeudy on the team during our final stretch of the season," says Bluefish Manager Ricky VanAsselberg. "He's got great speed and amazing defensive ability."

Valdez joins the Bluefish during his 10th season of professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. He began the 2015 campaign with Laredo of the independent American Association and Washington of the independent Frontier League. He appeared in a combined 69 games, collecting a .256 batting average with nine home runs, 28 RBI, 36 runs scored, and 19 stolen bases. Last year, the infielder split time with High-A Lake Elsinore of the California League (San Diego) and Double-A Tennessee of the Southern League (Chicago).

The 26-year-old began his professional career in 2006 with the Dominican Summer League Padres (San Diego). He spent eight years with the Padres organization before being traded to the Chicago Cubs organization during the 2014 season. He reached as high as the Double-A level with the Padres in 2012 and 2013, and with the Cubs in 2014. In 871 career minor league games, Jeudy owns a .249 batting average with 68 home runs, 400 RBI, 460 runs scored, and 162 stolen bases.
