Revs Begin Fan-Balloting to Select 10th Anniversary Team
August 20, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa.): Even as the 2015 revamped York Revolution make a second-half playoff push, the organization is looking forward to the 2016 season, which marks the 10th anniversary of York Revolution Baseball. The Revolution organization is turning things over to the fans to decide the official 10th Anniversary Team, and the process has launched. The ballot has been posted at YorkRevolution.com and on the team's official blog, and fans will vote individually for each position on the field, a designated hitter, a five-man starting rotation and relief pitchers. Fans may vote as many times as they would like for each position.
The highest vote-getting position players who are not voted as starters at their respective positions will be final additions to the 10th Anniversary Team, and out of 71 initial nominees, 25 players total will be honored. The criteria for being nominated varied: Career numbers with York, tremendous single-season performances and players who played for the Revolution briefly and then reached the Major Leagues were all taken into consideration.
On Opening Day 2016 (date TBA), former Revs will be back at Santander Stadium for a reunion, including as many players as possible that were selected to the 10th Anniversary roster and starting lineup. (Several of the nominated players are still working in the game in a coaching or scouting capacity.)
Fans may vote as many times as they would like for their favorite players in Revolution history, from now until February when the final results are tallied and the Revolution 10th Anniversary Team is announced prior to the season. Several positions will be highly competitive and voting should be very close and fun to watch. Among the most intriguing, and one of the races anticipated to be very close is first base; Chris Ashby '08 (Atlantic League-record hit streak), Ian Bladergroen '10, Chris Nowak '11-'12 (career franchise home run leader) and Chad Tracy '13-'14 are the nominees.
Regular updates on vote totals will be provided as things move forward. Fan voting for the 10th Anniversary Team is just the first step in what will be a year-long celebration of the first decade of York Revolution Baseball, with a wider focus of "Celebrate York."
"Obviously, our organization is about far more than just baseball," said Revolution President Eric Menzer. "It's appropriate the celebration of our 10th year also be about more than just baseball. We are going to make it also about the community that has shown us so much support in those first 10 years."
In the coming off-season months, fans can look forward to promotional schedule announcements about top-of-the-line giveaways and special events during the 2016 season to honor not only the best players and moments in York Revolution history, but all of York's favorite sons and daughters, and the community's overall contributions to sports, history and pop-culture.
The York Revolution Professional Baseball Club is a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, and Atlantic League Champions in 2010 and 2011. 2015 is the Revolution's ninth season of operation at Santander Stadium, the centerpiece of Downtown York, PA, located at 5 Brooks Robinson Way.
