York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution did what they do best on Wednesday night, letting the league's top offense steal the show in an 11-5 win over the Camden Riversharks at Sovereign Bank Stadium. York's third straight win and fourth in the last five games propels the Revs into sole possession of first place in the Freedom Division's second half, one game ahead of Lancaster, who lost on Wednesday.

The top four batters in the Revolution offense combined to go 11-for-16 with three homers, three doubles, nine RBI, and 10 runs scored, leading a 15-hit attack.

Early on, it was a tight struggle, with the Revs battling back to erase two Camden leads.

The Sharks struck first on a two-run homer by Raul Padron in the first inning, but the Revs answered with a pair of runs on back-to-back RBI doubles from Ramon Castro and Jose Herrera.

Camden edged back on top with a second inning run on a two-out single by Chris Walker, but the Revs re-tied it an inning later, when Victor Rodriguez came across to score on a double play.

The Sharks took their final lead at 4-3 on a two-out RBI single to left by Juan Francia in the fourth inning, chasing York starter Celson Polanco (3.2 innings, seven hits, four runs).

Eric Ackerman (4-0) came on to retire all five that he faced in relief making his home debut, and earned his second win in three appearances with York when the Revs took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth.

The go-ahead hit came in the form of a two-run homer from Rodriguez which landed on Arch Street for his fifth blast in just 25 games with York, lifting the Revs to a 5-4 advantage, but the offense was far from done.

Centerfielder Scott Grimes preserved the lead, robbing Francia with a running catch in deep left-center that saved at least two runs, if not an inside-the-park homerun, to end the top of the sixth. Grimes banged into the fence on the play, and was writhing in pain clutching his right knee, but stayed in the game.

The Revs pulled away with three in the seventh, and three more in the eighth.

After a Grimes walk and an error on a fielder's choice set the table with runners at second and third and no outs in the seventh, Castro stroked his second RBI double of the night to left field, as the lead grew to 6-4. That chased Camden starter Gabe Alfaro (2-5), and Herrera greeted reliever Eddy Camacho with an RBI single to left. Castro later scored on a double play, increasing the bulge to 8-4.

Camden recovered a run in the eighth (unearned) on an RBI double to left-center from Chris Malec, but the Revs blew it open in their half of the inning.

A two-out double from Chuck Jeroloman kept the inning alive, and Grimes took advantage with a line-drive two-run homer that cleared the Arch Nemesis in left. Liu Rodriguez followed with a towering homerun to right field, as the Revs went back-to-back for the third time this year.

Notes: John Pachot was ejected by first base umpire Brett Brewington for arguing an out call at second base in the eighth inning, after attempting to stretch a single off the left field wall into a double. The number-two spot in the Revs order combined to score all of a potential five runs, including three by Victor Rodriguez, and two by Liu Rodriguez who entered in the seventh as a pinch-runner before going deep the following inning. Grimes scored three times, increasing his league-leading total to 105 runs on the season; he is now just 15 runs away from breaking the Atlantic League record. Castro went 4-for-5 with two doubles, increasing his league-leading total to 33 doubles; his two RBI also allowed him to retake the RBI lead from Camden's Brian Burgamy with 79 on the season. Sean Stidfole's eighth-inning appearance was his league-best 55th of the season, moving him within three of Travis Phelps' 2009 club record of 58, and within 12 of the league record of 67. Ackerman has now worked 3.2 scoreless innings since joining the team. The Revs will go for the sweep on Thursday night at 7 p.m., when starter Julio Manon makes his Revolution debut, opposite Camden's Ben Davis. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the first 1,000 fans receive a Boomer Bank Giveaway, presented by Members 1st Federal Credit Union. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office. Playoff tickets are also now on-sale for the Revs' Sprint to the Championship!
