Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

The Bridgeport Bluefish fell to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-2 Wednesday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Southern Maryland put one run on the board in the second inning to take control of the game. Travis Garcia picked up a base hit and with two away Jamar Hill walked to bring up Christian Lopez. A single to left from Lopez gave Garcia the go-ahead to score from second.

The Blue Crabs took a 2-0 lead over the Bluefish in the fifth frame. A one-out walk for Patrick Osborn and Eric Crozier's double to right field put runners in scoring position for Southern Maryland. Osborn broke for home on a wild pitch and was called safe on a very close play at the plate.

Denny Stark (6-4) was ejected after he disputed the call made by the home plate umpire. The righty ultimately took the loss for the 'Fish, giving up two runs on five hits through four and two-thirds innings, with five walks and four strikeouts. Luis Arroyo finished off the last four and one-third innings of play, surrendering two runs on four hits, with a walk and three strikeouts.

A two RBI triple hit by Jeremy Owens in the seventh put the Blue Crabs ahead 4-0.

What appeared to be a shutout for Southern Maryland's Dan Reichert turned into a 4-2 game in the bottom of the ninth, courtesy of Bridgeport's Josh Phelps. The rally began with one out walk for Steve Moss, and Phelps followed with a monster home run over the left field wall to put the Bluefish on the board.

Reichert (14-7) exited the game after the Phelps home run, logging eight and one-third innings pitched to earn the win. The righthander allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Jim Ed Warden was awarded his 23rd save of the season, finishing off the last two-thirds of the ninth frame. Reichert now leads the league with 14 wins, and Warden leads the league in saves with twenty-three.
