New England Revolution News Release
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The New England Revolution (1-4-1, 4 pts.) were defeated on the road, 3-2, at Inter Miami CF (1-4-1; 4 pts.) on Saturday. Homegrown Player Justin Rennicks scored his first career MLS goal in the 11th minute and Carles Gil converted from the penalty spot in the 67th minute, but a hat trick from Miami's Leonardo Campana tilted the result in favor of the hosts.
Rennicks opened the scoring for New England in the 11th minute as the Revolution Academy product scored his first MLS goal, directing home a DeJuan Jones cross with a clever first-touch finish. Arnór Traustason also picked up an assist on the goal. Miami's Leonardo Campana leveled the score with a headed goal in the 17th minute, before adding his second goal in the 23rd minute to put the hosts ahead 2-1 at halftime.
As the Revolution battled to get back into the match, Rennicks again made an impact as he raced in behind the Miami defense and drew a penalty kick after a hard foul in the area. Carles Gil buried the equalizer in the 67th minute for his team-high third goal of the year, all coming from the penalty spot. However, Inter Miami pulled back in front late as Campana scored his third goal of the match in the 88th minute.
The Revolution return home next Saturday, April 16, as expansion side Charlotte FC pays its first visit to Gillette Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on WSBK-TV38, myRITV, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio.

POSTGAME QUOTES: New England Revolution 2 at Inter Miami CF 3
Revolution Sporting Director & Head Coach Bruce Arena
On the team's recent run of form:
Arena: "Well, obviously we're not getting very good play out of a number of players. I think our attack has been stifled with the loss of not having a combination of [Gustavo] Bou and [Adam] Buksa with [Carles] Gil. I think our goalkeeping can be better. And we've had a very difficult time in the center back position with the injuries to [Henry] Kessler and that injury to [Andrew] Farrell that changed things around as we went into the week of having the Champions League and the game in Charlotte. So, we've had a couple of people that have been called on that haven't able to get the get the job done in all honesty. Today, it's another gift. We gave away some points at the end of the game. We have to make a play at the end of the game not to give up a loose ball in front of the goal and just get off the field with a point. I've told our team a number of times to think about the Salt Lake game, the Red Bull game last week, you know, where in the closing minutes of games, we just take the point and get out of there and say listen, 'It wasn't our best day, but we take point.' But we have failed to do that. So, you know, combination of things, but we certainly haven't played well enough."
On his evaluation of the game:
Arena: "The first goal, again, just a really poor play with our marking in front of the goal. The second goal, a couple of mistakes by players going to the ground, but give them credit. I thought their second goal, they did a heck of a job and certainly earned it. The third goal was another gift we've given away. Second half, we played well. We come out and get the goal to get us back in the game and push to try to get the third goal, but at the same time, you know, they were pretty much neutralized the entire second half. I thought our guys did a good job there with the exception of that play at the end of the game."
On the team's injury issues this season:
Arena: "That's the case with basically every team. Injuries are a part of the game, suspensions. This game we lose [Adam] Buksa and really, I think, because of poor officiating, we lost that player for this game, as the did Red Bulls - lost a player as well for their game this week. But you know, you could use that as an excuse, but we've had to play games in the past missing players and we'll continue to play games in the future with injuries and suspensions and those kinds of things. So, you can't live on that as an excuse."
On Brandon Bye's status and on Justin Rennicks' performance:
Arena: "[Brandon] Bye did pick up an injury. Rennicks played a good game, played really hard. Obviously, scored the first goal of his career, worked really hard, was fouled for the penalty kick. So, you know, he's one of the players on the day you've got to give a lot of credit to, so I thought Justin [Rennicks] did a real good job."
Revolution Midfielder Sebastian Lletget
On Saturday's result and controlling possession:
Lletget: "I guess the same thing that has always been happening. It seems like a habit of ours to to just give up goals beyond the 80th minute. It's nobody in particular, it's the collective unit, and it's obviously frustrating and I'm clearly disappointed. I just know that we're better than this. I mean, even if we come away with a point, sure, I would have considered us the better team, but we walk away with a point and we have something to build on. Then we go back home against Charlotte [next Saturday] and we build on that. So, to walk out of here with nothing, it's just extremely disappointing."
On moving forward from the past four matches:
Lletget: "I think this is going to come down to us taking initiative, us taking the reins a little bit between the group. Everybody has to look themselves in the mirror and see what they can be doing better, because we score twice when we're away and you should walk away with something. I'm sorry, definitely, in my experiences, when you score two goals when you're away from home, you walk away with a point, or you win the game. And I think we're just too spread apart. So again, it's a great group, I believe in this group, I haven't lost hope or anything like that. But it's just a disappointing moment. And I have been through this before, and I've bounced back and the team that I've been on bounced back. So, I'm not panicking, it's just a shame."
On mounting injuries to several key players:
Lletget: "Yeah, it's tough. I would say, being a newcomer in this team, that the team is built around those guys, and so not having them available kind of throws everything off. You know, even then, I think we put ourselves in some decent positions to win games even not having them. So, it's like that's what's most disappointing I think, because coming into this team, I knew we had depth, I knew we have experience -- Bruce [Arena] has always valued experienced guys -- but they are missed of course. They add so much value to this team."
On keeping a level head despite the recent losses:
Lletget: "Every time I get out of this position, I'm like, 'Okay, yeah, just stick with it.' But it's so much harder than that, because it's not just about you. Obviously, you want to take accountability, I'm always going to take accountability if I can do better, but it takes the collective group to do that. And so now, we just, we go back home, we go back to the drawing board, and we really see what has gone wrong here, because we have too much ability, too much talent on this team for this to be happening. I really feel that, and that's all I got."
Revolution Forward Justin Rennicks
On scoring his first goal in MLS:
Rennicks: "Getting the goal was great. You know, it's been a long time coming. It's been four years now and I've just been waiting to get that goal, so I finally got it."
On what his first goal means to him and his journey as a professional:
Rennicks: "Yeah, I mean, it's been just hard work and dedication. I knew it was going to come at some point, it was just a matter of when. So, I was glad to go out there and get it today."
On Saturday's loss and the slow start:
Rennicks: "You know, everything was just unlucky. It was a couple of mistakes here and there, but we're a great team and it's just been a slow start. We're going to bounce right back and we're going to start winning games and prove everyone wrong."
