Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO -- Chicago Fire FC today announced the date and time for the Club's third-round Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup contest against Union Omaha FC. The Fire will host the USL League One side on Tuesday, April 19 at 7:00 p.m. CT at Soldier Field. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Tickets to the match are now on-sale. Fans will have the option to purchase tickets in the Supporters' Section for $15 or in the East 100 level for $25.
Season ticket holders can secure tickets through their Ticketmaster account manager and will receive a free ticket with each ticket purchased. The general public can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster.
The match will mark the first-ever meeting between the Fire and Union Omaha, with the League One club beginning play in 2019. Historically, the Fire are one of the most successful clubs in the United States' oldest ongoing national soccer competition, which began play in 1913.
The Fire have won four U.S. Open Cup trophies in Club history, winning the 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2006 editions of the tournament. Chicago's four titles are tied with Seattle Sounders FC and Sporting KC for the most championships won by an MLS team, and the second-most in the history of the tournament.
Additionally, the Fire have appeared in the semifinals on 13 occasions, including six times in an eight-year period (2011-2018), tallying a 45-16-6 all-time record in the annual competition. The match against Union Omaha will mark the Fire's first Open Cup game since 2019, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the first time in the tournament's history that MLS teams have begun play in the third round.
A knockout style competition, the Open Cup is the second-oldest continually operating soccer tournament in the world. This year's champion will automatically secure a berth in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League.
