Short Memory and Heading Back Home: Ingredients of the Match
Published on April 9, 2022 under Major League Soccer (MLS)
Charlotte FC News Release
It was a tough night in Chester, Pennsylvania last week for Charlotte FC. But it's a new week, a new opponent, and a new chance to earn three points.
"We tried, we tried hard... It's just one of those days that you have to forget about," said CLTFC captain and defender Christian Fuchs.
In soccer, or in any sport for that matter, you must have a short memory. You can't get caught up in the last match or moment and dwell on it.
However, facing rival Atlanta United the following week does make forgetting about the last match easier. Especially with the heartbreaking manner the last meeting between these two sides ended.
What better way to move on than to have the opportunity to get revenge at home in front of your fans?
Back At Home
The Crown are back home in Charlotte for the second edition of Charlotte FC versus Atlanta United. So far this season, Charlotte has a 2 - 1 record at home and has outscored opponents 5 - 2.
Home field advantage is a real thing, and it's no different in Major League Soccer. Fans can have a direct impact on the game, and CLTFC fans have shown they can bring the energy and noise to do so.
"I don't know if they [the fans] really realize, but on the pitch, we can really feel them. When we are running out of gas or struggling on the pitch, it's the fans who give us life," Charlotte FC head coach Miguel Ramírez said about the impact the fans have.
If Charlotte wants Bank of America Stadium to be a fortress, as Sporting Director Zoran Krneta has stated, they will need to continue getting results at home. Something to keep in mind is that MLS teams that have had the strongest home records tend to have made playoffs.
So, taking full advantage of feeding off the energy of fans will be pivotal in getting a result against a depleted Atlanta side.
Capitalize on Absences
This header may look familiar to those of you who read the last Atlanta United edition of Ingredients of the Match... and, well, that's because Atlanta United continues to have an unfortunate case of injury woes this season.
Already shorthanded coming into this week, they've suffered three more injuries to key players. Star striker Josef Martinez and midfielders Osvaldo Alonso and Matheus Rossetto won't be available for the match on Sunday. In addition, DP winger Luiz Araújo is still recovering from his hamstring injury and midfielder Emerson Hyndman is questionable.
Capitalizing on Atlanta's absences and getting a win would be a great boost for the team heading into a window where they will be playing three straight away matches.
