York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution lost for the third time in four games, dropping a 7-3 decision to the Camden Riversharks in front of 2,502 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Tuesday night. The Revs are now 12-6 in the second half, with their south division lead trimmed to just 1.5 over the Somerset Patriots. The Riversharks are now 8-11.

Camden struck first, with Denny Abreu drawing a leadoff walk on a full count to start the game. He moved to second on Pete Shier's sacrifice bunt, and came around to score with two outs on Randy McGarvey's two-strike, two-out double inside the bag at third.

The Sharks made it a 3-0 game in the third inning, putting together a rally after having two outs and no base runners. Shier walked, and Dwight Maness followed with a single to left putting runners at the corners. With McGarvey at bat, Shier came across on a passed ball, and Maness then scored on McGarvey's bouncing ball single up the middle.

The Revs immediately came back with a two-spot in the bottom of the third to pull within a run. Anthony Ferrari's first pitch of the inning nicked Keoni De Renne's jersey, putting the leadoff man aboard. Rayner Bautista then singled high off the Arch Nemesis in left, landing runners at the corners. Nate Espy followed with an RBI double into the leftfield corner, getting York on the board. Justin Singleton then drove a sac fly to deep right, scoring Bautista, and cutting Camden's lead to 3-2.

The Sharks pushed another run across in the fourth on a two-out RBI single by Denny Abreu to make it 4-2, and the Revs came right back with one of their own in the bottom of the inning, on Espy's RBI single to center getting the Revs back within one at 4-3. York recorded three base hits each in the third and fourth, chasing Ferrari from the game after 3.2 innings. Control also hurt the Camden lefty, as he walked two and hit three batters.

After stranding nine base runners in the first five innings, including two each in the second, third, fourth, and fifth, York had a golden opportunity to score in the seventh, but left two more into scoring position. Luis Cotto ripped a one-out double to right, but was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple. Matt Dryer followed with a two-out single to center, and Jason Aspito doubled down the leftfield line. Lefty Erick Burke came back to strike out Greg Brown, however, ending the inning.

Camden tacked on two more in the eighth on a two-run double off the left-center field wall by Brad Strauss, and another run in the ninth on Matt DeMarco's RBI hit.

Notes: Ramon Nivar left the game after getting hit by a pitch on his right hand in the second inning... it is the Revs' first losing streak since June 26 - July 2 when they dropped seven-in-a-row... York finishes the month of July with a 19-11 record... the Revs are now just 5-8 against Camden this season... the home record now stands at 17-11, having lost two straight at home after a seven-game home winning streak... York is now 3-41 when trailing after six innings... the game took three hours and 27 minutes to complete... the middle game of the series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, with Wayne Franklin making his first start since May for the Revs, after pitching in Taiwan for the last two months... he will be opposed by Camden right-hander Luke Lockwood.
