Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release
The Border Cats opened a five-game homestand Thursday night at Subway Field with a 6-4 loss to the Waterloo Bucks. Will Sparks delivered a two-run single in the top of the 9th inning to break a 4-4 tie and push the Bucks first place record to 19-9. The Cats saw their first half record fall to 11-18. Trailing 3-1, Thunder Bay took the lead with a three-run 4th inning thanks to an RBI double by Jacob Rogers (Eastern New Mexico University), plus a bases loaded balk and an error. The Bucks tied it with a single run in the 7th inning. Jason Vosler (Northeastern University) had given the Cats an early 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 1st inning.
John Hayes (Murray State College) started for the Cats and pitched 6 1/3 innings. The righthander allowed five hits and four runs (three earned), with five walks and four strikeouts. Zach Thiac (Nicholls State University) gave up two runs in relief to take the loss, dropping his record to 2-1.
The Cats and Bucks conclude their two-game series tonight at 7:05pm. Ryan Atwood (Florida Gulf Coast University) is the scheduled starter for the Cats. The lefthander has appeared in five games and is 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA.
