Green Bay Rockers News Release
The Bullfrogs battled through multiple rain delays, late-inning drama and seemingly everything else in a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Battle Creek Bombers on Thursday.
After a thirty minute delay at Joannes Stadium, the game finally began around 7:35 p.m.
It was a pitchers' duel the whole way, beginning between starters Michael Fain (Nevada) of Green Bay and David Stagg (Heartland CC). It wasn't until the third inning when a sacrifice fly from Rouric Bridgewater (Arizona State) drove in A.J. Kennedy (Cal State Fullerton) for a 1-0 lead after three innings.
The game was delayed again in the top of the fourth inning due to a mix of heavy rain and lightning. The delay lasted 15 minutes.
Stagg made his first and only mistake on the mound against the Bullfrogs when Bryant Burleson (Texas Tech) came up to the plate to lead off the fifth after the second rain delay of the night. Burleson hit a line drive home run to tie the game up at 1 after five innings.
Both Stagg and Fain finished their nights after six innings setting it up for the bullpens of each team to fight for the win. Jordan Wright (Henderson State) came in to pitch the next 2.2 innings. He gave up a solo home run to Matthew Fears (Valdosta State) for a 2-1 Bombers lead going in to the bottom of the ninth inning.
The heroics then entered for Green Bay when Tripp Martin (Samford) tripled off the left field wall scoring Boomer White (TCU) to tie the game up at 2 to force extra innings.
The scoring remained silent until the 13th inning. A walk to Andrew Ely (Washington) was followed by three wild pitches from Ethan Bramschreiber (Northwestern). Ely advanced one base on each of the wild pitches, scoring on the final one to win the game for Green Bay in the most improbable, yet seemingly only fitting way.
The win went to Logan West (San Francisco) and loss to Ethan Bramschreiber. The Bullfrogs improved to 12-17 on the season with the win.
First pitch of game two of the series against the Bombers is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Joannes Stadium. Come out to Joannes Stadium for Star Wars Night with 501st Garrison Wisconsin and Frogtacular Fireworks Friday Presented by Pepsi with KZ 104.3.
