La Crosse Loggers News Release

LA CROSSE, WI - It was a long night for the 2,716 Copeland Crazies that came out on Thursday. The Lakeshore Chinooks (18-10) pounded out 16 hits in their 10-5 win over the Loggers (18-11).

Two of the Northwoods League's top pitchers faced off in the contest. Collin Monsour (California) got the game ball for La Crosse, while Kyle Baumon (Saint Louis) did for the Chinooks.

After three innings, a Zack Rivera (Long Beach State) home run would be all the offense La Crosse would muster up.

On-the-other-hand, Lakeshore had their way with Monsour. Between eight hits and two walks, the Chinooks managed to score six runs after just three innings. The freshman right-hander, who entered the night 3-0 with a 0.93 ERA, gave up eight runs (5 earned) in five innings of work.

Monsour's teammate at California, Michael Lowden, came on and pitched two innings in relief. The junior almost got out of a jam in the top of the sixth when Brant Valach grounded into what appeared to be a routine double play. Brandon DeFazio (San Mateo) made a solid throw to second, but Rivera could not handle it. The Chinooks proceeded to score two more runs, pushing the lead to 10-1.

Zack Reser (Oregon State) made his Logger debut in the top of the eighth. The redshirt sophomore struck out one and did not allow a run.

The Loggers gave the remaining fans something to cheer about in the bottom of the eighth. With two runners on, first baseman Michael Katz stepped to the plate. After striking out in his first three at-bats, Katz connected on a 2-1 fastball and sent it into the right field cabins.

Bobby Juan (Minnesota) pitched a clean top of the ninth; he struck out two Chinooks in the inning.

Rivera led off the bottom of the ninth with his second big fly of the night, but that would be all the damage La Crosse would do.

The Loggers and Chinooks will be back in action Friday night at the Lumberyard. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and gates will open at 6:00.
