Green Bay Rockers News Release
In another close game, the Bullfrogs hung on to defeat the Battle Creek Bombers 3-2 at Joannes Stadium on Friday night.
Bryce Bellin (Minnesota State) started out the night for the Bullfrogs quickly, but Green Bay fell behind for the second straight night against the Bombers. A double from Greg Velasquez (Cal State Fullerton) led off the second. Velasquez then came around to score off on an error from Nick Torres (Cal Poly) to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead after two innings at Joannes Stadium.
Bellin got into trouble in the fourth inning as well, but was able to get out of it with another strong defensive play by Andrew Ely (Washington) to end the fourth, keeping it a one run lead for Battle Creek.
Bellin went five innings and gave up eight hits allowing one run. Battle Creek starter Keegan Yuhl (Lee University) also went five innings, but gave up two runs on five hits. Bryant Burleson and Boomer White each had a RBI single to give the Bullfrogs the lead after six innings.
Green Bay added on another run in the eighth inning with a passed ball that scored Andrew Ely from third to give the Bullfrogs a 3-1 lead over Battle Creek.
A pair of St. Nobert College Green Knights in Kevin Nutley and Matt Freeman, as well as Austin Franzen (Toledo), each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen to lead up to a save opportunity for Brian Trieglaff (TCU).
Trieglaff came in to the ninth for his first save chance of the season. He gave up a run on an RBI single from Joe Serrano (Arkansas), but Serrano was caught in a rundown to end the game for a 3-2 Bullfrogs victory.
The win went to reliever Kevin Nutley (3-0), loss to Keegan Yuhl (0-1) and save to Brian Trieglaff (1) as the Bullfrogs improved to 13-17 on the season.
The next Bullfrogs home game will be Tuesday July 2 against Wisconsin Rapids. First pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Come out to Joannes Stadium for Thunder Stix Giveaway and 2 for 1 Tuesdays with Y100.
