WHL Everett Silvertips

Return from Break Snaps Winning Streak

December 28, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Ilijah Colina's goal at 2:34 of the third period broke a tied game and the Prince George Cougars escaped downtown Everett defeating the Everett Silvertips, 4-3 before a crowd of 7,563 fans at Angel of the Winds Arena on Friday in WHL action.

The Tips had their eight game unbeaten streak (regulation) snapped and dropped their first regulation loss in December. Dawson Butt scored twice for the Silvertips, who rallied out of a two goal deficit, and third star goaltender Braden Holt turned in a 19 save effort after taking over in net for the final 42:12 of action.

The Tips closed a four-game homestand at 3-1.

UP NEXT: The Tips start a six-game road swing tomorrow, 7:05pm (KRKO / Tips App / WHL Live) against the Kamloops Blazers, and return home Sunday, Jan. 12 against the Regina Pats at 4:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale for the Jan. 12 home game, the next SmileGen Family Fun Zone event. The first several hundred fans in attendance will take away a Tips beanie presented by BECU.

The Cougars struck first on a snap shot by Josh Maser off the rush from the left circle, 5:04 into the game, but the Tips responded 1:10 later on Dawson Butt's slap shot from the right circle to tie the game.

Prince George strung two quick back to back goals, first by Filip Coffer's sharp angled snapshot from the right circle at 13:14 and Blake Eastman's first career WHL goal from the right circle, for a 3-1 lad at 15:36.

Holt took over for starter Keegan Karki and stopped the final three Cougars shots of the period, and the Tips shaved the deficit to a goal just 19 seconds into the second period on Bryce Kindopp's wide open forehand bid for his 25th goal of the year. Holt kept the Tips within striking distance with eight saves and the Tips converted a crucial penalty kill late in the second period.

Jack Sander's delay of game penalty early in the third period opened the door for the Tips to tie it, 1:42 into the period on a rebound to Butt at the right post, for a power play goal. But Prince George regained the lead at 4-3 on Colina's four-on-four goal, a snap shot from the left circle.

The Tips outshot the Cougars, 13-9 in the final period but misfired on three good looks at the net in the final minute of regulation, and Prince George helped to clog the puck into the corner to finish the game.
