Sacramento River Cats News Release

RENO, Nev. - Four different River Cats hitters went deep Monday evening, but the Reno Aces scored six times in the fourth inning and thwarted a late Sacramento rally to win their second-straight game against the Cats at Aces Ballpark, 9-7.

The Cats jumped out to an early lead when Jermaine Mitchell singled and scored in the first. They added another run in the third on Michael Taylor's 11th long ball of the season, stretching the lead to 2-0, but Reno would counter with a big inning in the fourth.

In the fourth, the Aces plated six runs, sending 11 men to the plate to take a 6-2 lead. After the lead stretched to 9-3, the River Cats rallied for four runs in the eighth-on three home runs-but could not complete the comeback.

Oakland A's ace Brandon McCarthy, pitching on a Major League rehabilitation assignment, started and suffered the defeat for the River Cats. McCarthy (0-1) allowed six runs-all earned-on seven hits in 3.2 innings. He struck out two and walked one, throwing 42 of his 66 pitches for strikes.

Charles Brewer (7-6) started and earned the victory for the Aces, striking out five and allowing three earned runs in 5.1 innings.

Offensively for the Cats, Taylor, Kila Ka'aihue, Anthony Recker and Shane Peterson all hit home runs. The latter three came against former River Cats reliever Sam Demel in the Cats' four-run eighth.

The series concludes Tuesday afternoon, when LHP Brett Anderson (0-0, 6.75 ERA) will make his second Major League rehabilitation start for the River Cats. Reno will counter with LHP Patrick Corbin (3-2, 3.44 ERA), with first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m. from Aces Ballpark.

The River Cats return to Raley Field on Wednesday, August 1 at 7:05 p.m. to open an eight-game homestand against the Memphis Redbirds and Nashville Sounds, which will kick off Tennessee Week presented by Jack Daniel's.
