Tonight's Game-- Following yesterday's rough loss, the RedHawks seek to rebound in their game against the Omaha Storm Chasers tonight at 7:05 p.m.
Last Night-- The Storm Chasers took control early and led throughout in an 11-1 win over the RedHawks. Omaha scored 11 runs in the third through fifth innings and that was more than enough to get the win for starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi. Odorizzi (8-1) gave up one run in 5.2 innings while giving up seven hits, three walks and striking out five. The lone run scored on an RBI single by shortstop Angel Sanchez in the bottom of the sixth. Omaha began their offensive attack in the top of the third. Irving Falu and Tony Abreu had RBI doubles, Wil Myers had an RBI single and David Lough pitched-in with a sac fly to give Omaha a 4-0 lead. In the fourth, Omaha tacked on two more runs on a two-run single by Myers. The fifth inning brought five more runs for the Storm Chasers. RedHawks starter Brian Bass (1-5) pitched four-plus innings, giving up nine runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out two.
Today's Probable Pitchers-- Brett Oberholtzer makes the start for the RedHawks, looking to continue his winning ways at home...Through his first three starts in OKC, Oberholtzer is 3-0 with a 2.33 ERA and is limiting opponents to a .205 average...On Wednesday against Iowa, Oberhotltzer tossed seven innings for his longest outing since joining the RedHawks...Although he allowed three runs and four hits over the first two innings, he limited the I-Cubs to one run and three hits the rest of the way...He's done a good job throwing strikes, allowing one or no walks in six of eight starts with OKC...Oberholtzer's also lasted at least six innings in each of his last three starts as well as in four of his last five outings...Omaha's Nate Adcock looks to smooth things out after a bumpy start following the break...In three starts after the All-Star break, Adcock is 2-1 but has posted a 7.71 ERA...After not allowing more than three runs in each of his first four Triple-A appearances, he's allowed at least four runs in six of his last seven games with Omaha...He was excellent against the RedHawks on June 28, allowing two runs and four hits over six innings...Adcock has also made 10 appearances (two starts) with the Royals this season, going 0-3 with a 2.67 ERA.
Blistering Heat, Blistering Bats-- The RedHawks are hitting .316 this month, easily their best monthly mark of the season. Only Reno (.321) has a better team average in the PCL during July. Their 16 wins in July are also tied for their highest monthly total this year (April).
Swingin' At the Storm-- Despite yesterday's loss, the RedHawks still notched 10 hits and are batting .353 over their last six meetings with Omaha.
Fabulous Fernando-- Fernando Martinez has hit safely in 16 of his last 18 games, batting .348 (24-for-69) with three homers and 11 RBIs. He and Jimmy Paredes are the two RedHawks to collect 100+ hits this season.
Shuck-Tacular-- J.B. Shuck has hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games, batting .452 (19-for-42).
Uncle Buck-- Over his last nine games, Travis Buck is hitting .414 (12-for-29) with seven RBIs. He's had a multi-hit game in four of his last seven starts.
The Extra Bat-- Tonight is the third of 16 straight as well as 20 of 24 games where the RedHawks will play with a designated hitter. The RedHawks are 12-13 in games using a DH, and collectively, team DH's this season have hit .277 with seven homers and 25 RBIs. The RedHawks have gotten more hits (26) and RBIs (25) than strikeouts (24) out of the position.
Drought Beyond the Midwest-- Mike Hessman has not homered since July 5 in New Orleans. The 21-game streak without a homer is well past his previous long of 12. He still leads the PCL with 27 dingers this season.
Mound Troubles-- The pitching staff has allowed at least five runs in 13 of the last 14 games as well as in 15 of 18 games since the break. The staff ERA over the last 14 games is 6.95 (96 ER/124.1 IP). They've also allowed four runs in an inning in seven of the last 10 games, occurring a total of 10 times.
Great Divide-- Seven of the RedHawks' last 12 losses have been by seven or more runs. They had lost just two games by seven or more runs all season before the recent stretch.
Waiting in the LOBby-- The RedHawks tied a season high for a nine-inning game with 13 runners left on base yesterday. They also did not record an extra-base hit for the fifth time this season.
Against the Storm Chasers-- The RedHawks are 6-8 against Omaha...Yesterday's loss snapped a five-game winning streak, during which the RedHawks averaged 9.6 runs per game and scored at least six each time...In their most recent series, the RedHawks became just the second team ever to sweep the Storm Chasers in Werner Park as they hit .393 and scored 42 runs...They've hit 23 homers in 14 games against the Omaha pitching staff...Combined with his time with New Orleans, Matt Dominguez is hitting .385 with 17 RBIs...Anthony Seratelli has only gone 10-for-45, but half of his hits have left the park...David Lough has driven in 16 runs in 13 games.
