Renegades win over the Brooklyn Cyclones

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades banged out a season-high with 14 hits in a 12-2 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones on Saturday night at Maimonides Park.

The Renegades plated five in the top of the first, chasing Brooklyn starter Daison Acosta after 0.2 innings. Anthony Siegler lined an RBI single in his first at-bat with Hudson Valley this year, and James Nelson launched a grand slam off reliever Colby Morris to make it 5-0 Renegades. The blast was the first of the year for Nelson with the Renegades.

In the top of the fifth, Aldenis Sanchez laced an RBI single to extend the Hudson Valley edge to 6-0. Sanchez finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk, and now has back-to-back multi-hit games.

The Renegades blew it open in the top of the sixth. Tyler Hardman bounced into a double play with the bases loaded to bring home Trey Sweeney, Siegler lined an RBI double down the right field line, and Spencer Henson followed with a two-run homer to grow the advantage to 10-0.

Hudson Valley starter Beck Way (2-1) dominated in his outing, firing five shutout innings, allowing only two hits, striking out seven and walking just one.

Brooklyn plated its first runs in the bottom of the eighth. Brandon McIlwain and Joe Suozzi both collected bases-loaded RBI singles off Nelson Alvarez to cut the deficit to 10-2. However, both runs were charged to Jhonatan Muñoz, who had loaded the bases with one out.

The Renegades answered immediately the lead in the top of the ninth against Evy Ruibal. Sweeney and Cooper Bowman pounded RBI singles to right field to make it 12-2 Hudson Valley.

Ryan Miller shut the door with a scoreless ninth inning, making in his debut in the Yankees organization after being signed on Thursday.

Hudson Valley wraps up its six-game series with Brooklyn with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at Maimonides Park. LHP T.J. Sikkema (0-0, 0.00) takes the ball for the Renegades in Game 1, while the Cyclones counter with RHP Junior Santos (0-4, 5.01). RHP Blas Castaño (0-3, 3.97) toes the rubber for Hudson Valley in Game 2, while Brooklyn sends RHP Nolan Clenney (1-2, 5.71) to the bump. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning on the Renegades Baseball Network at 12:15.
