WILMINGTON, DE - Ethan Wilson drove in four runs and homered in the first inning but the BlueClaws lost a 4-0 lead and fell 5-4 in 10 innings on Saturday night in Wilmington.
Omar Meregildo singled home Cole Daily with the game winner in the bottom of the 10th as the Blue Rocks (19-16) rallied to top Jersey Shore (13-23). The BlueClaws had won two straight after dropping the first two games in their six-game series in Delaware.
Wilson accounted for all four BlueClaws runs. He hit a two-run home run in the first inning and then doubled home two runs in the eighth to put the BlueClaws up 4-0.
Wilmington, however, rallied with four runs in the eighth inning, all off Andrew Baker. Yasel Antuna doubled in the first run of the inning. A wild pitch and balk made it 4-3. Then Drew Mendoza homered, his third of the series and the season, to tie the game.
The BlueClaws could not score the inherited runner in the top of the 10th, but Wilmington's Omar Meregildo singled home Daily off Aidan Anderson to score the winning run in the bottom of the 10th. Erubiel Arementa (2-2) took the loss. Zach Brzykcy (5-0) got the last five outs to earn his second win of the year.
BlueClaws starter Ben Brown threw a season-high six innings, allowing no runs on just two hits while striking out eight. He threw 11.2 scoreless innings with 16 strikeouts in two starts on the trip.
Baron Radcliff was 0-2 but walked three times and scored twice. Wilson had two hits and drove in all four BlueClaws runs. Casey Martin and Johan Rojas each had a hit and a walk.
The teams finish their series on Sunday at 1:05 pm. The BlueClaws return home on Tuesday for 12 games in 13 days.
