Manzardo, Brundage Homer in 6-5 Loss Saturday

Greensboro, North Carolina- Patrick Wicklander made his High-A debut while Kyle Manzardo and Beau Brundage both homered in the Bowling Green Hot Rods (23-14) 6-5 loss to the Greensboro Grasshoppers (16-21) on Saturday night. The two teams will conclude their six-game series on Sunday with a 1:00 PM CT first pitch.

Greensboro scored the first run of the game for the second-consecutive night in the second inning thanks to Dariel Lopez's solo homer. The Hot Rods tied the game and took the lead in the top of the third against Grasshoppers starter Nick Dombkowski. Matthew Dyer reached on an error that also allowed him to take second, moving to third on a balk. Tanner Murray lifted a sacrifice fly into the outfield to tie the game before Beau Brundage hit his first homer of the season to give the Hot Rods a 2-1 edge.

The Grasshoppers tied the game in the third when Endy Rodriguez singled to left, bringing in Eli Wilson to make it a 2-2 game. Bowling Green took the lead back in the sixth against reliever Domingo Gonzalez. Brundage led off the inning with a triple to left and scored when Osleivis Basabe singled to give BG a 3-2 lead. Basabe advanced to third on two grounds balls, scoring when Manzardo singled on a ground ball to left that made it a 4-2 game.

Greensboro scored a run in the sixth and Maikol Escotto homered in the seventh against BG reliever Audry Lugo. Escotto's two-run shot gave the Grasshoppers their second lead of the game, 5-4. Manzardo evened the score in the top of the eighth, crushing his first home run of the season over the batters-eye in dead center to make it a 5-5 game.

The Hot Rods didn't hang on to the lead long, with the Grasshoppers plating the game-winning run on a single with the bases loaded to push Greensboro up by a run. The Hot Rods went down in order in the ninth to cap off the 6-5 loss.

Patrick Wicklander allowed two runs on three hits with six strikeouts in a no-decision. Lugo blew a save, allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings. Matthew Peguero (2-3) took the loss, allowing a run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in his 1.1 innings of relief.

Notes: Manzardo and Brundage hit their first home runs of the season... Brundage also had a triple in his second at-bat of the day... Manzardo had his third multi-hit game of the season... He also had his second multi-RBI game this year... His home run traveled an estimated 447-feet... Brundage had his fourth... Brundage and Basabe each had seven total bases... That was a game-high... Wicklander tied a career-high with 5.0 innings of work... It was the second time this season he's gone 5.0... BG has 42 hits as a team over the last three games... BG is 8-6 in one-run games this season... They're 7-8 when the opponent scores first... The team is 6-13 when out-hit... BG's all-time record against the Grasshoppers is 11-10... They're 8-7 in Greensboro... Hot Rods LH Mason Montgomery (1-2, 1.55) takes the mound against Grasshoppers RH Jared Jones (2-2, 5.97) in the series finale on Sunday...
