Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Aberdeen, MD - The Aberdeen IronBirds fell to 2-16 as they allowed five Renegades to score in the ninth inning, making the final score 6-0 in favor of the visitors from Hudson Valley.
Hudson Valley got on the board in the third inning. Juniel Querecuto hit a one-out single, advanced to second on a balk, and then came around to score on Jeff Malm's RBI double to make the score 1-0 Renegades.
The 1-0 lead for the Renegades would stand until the top of the ninth when things got interesting. Tanner Biagini led off with a single, and then Leonardo Reginatto pinch ran for him. Reginatto advanced to second on a balk. After Ray Church batted Reginatto home with an RBI single to make the score 2-0, IronBirds' manager Leo Gomez was ejected by home plate umpire Lucas Engen for arguing the balk call. Juniel Querecuto then made the score 3-0, roping an RBI single that plated Church on a close play at the plate. IronBirds pitcher Steven Mazur was ejected for arguing the call. As Mazur was arguing, Wynston Sawyer, Aberdeen's catcher, threw out Chris Winder who was trying to advance to third. Enrico Jimenez came on in relief of the ejected Mazur and gave up back-to-back home runs, making the score 6-0 Renegades.
The IronBirds' bats were held at bay for a vast majority of the evening. They managed only four hits, two of them coming from center fielder Glynn Davis, while Wynston Sawyer and Kyle Hoppy collected singles.
David Baker takes the loss for the IronBirds. He falls to 0-2 after pitching five innings, allowing seven hits, one (earned) run, walking one, and striking out four. Jason McEachern got the win for the Renegades. He pitched six innings, allowed two hits and struck out five. Charles Cononie worked three innings to pick up his second save of the season.
The Renegades and IronBirds will finish up the two game series tomorrow night starting at 7:05 p.m. at Ripken Stadium. Trent Howard (1-0, 8.10) will get the ball for the IronBirds, while Jacob Partridge (0-2, 6.89) will start for the Renegades.
