-SPIKES ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The State College Spikes and Auburn Doubledays head to Falcon Park tonight to start a two-game series. The Spikes and Doubledays are in the midst of four straight meetings against each other. The Spikes are 27-28 all-time against the Doubledays, with a 12-12 mark all-time on the road against the Nationals affiliate.
-LAST GAME: Taylor Lewis became just the second State College Spikes player to notch two triples in a game, but the Auburn Doubledays became the first team to reach double digits in the runs column against the Spikes this year with a 10-4 win at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Sunday night. Lewis joined Elevys Gonzalez as the only two Spikes players with multiple three-base hits in a single game. Gonzalez accomplished the feat on September 2, 2009 against the Williamsport Crosscutters. The Maine product now has four triples in State College's last three games. The Spikes concluded their five-game homestand with a 3-2 record, and have won or split each of their last two series.
-SPIKES SEND BENEDICT TO MOUND: Right-hander Matt Benedict makes his fourth start of the year for State College tonight. Benedict's innings total is just under the current minimum, but his 0.73 ERA on the year would be seventh in the New York-Penn League. The 2011 30th-round pick out of Western Carolina earned his first pro win last time out against Mahoning Valley, allowing one run on four hits whille striking out a career-high three.
-NEW DOUBLEDAY MEZA GETS START: Left-hander Christian Meza joins Auburn tonight from the GCL Nationals and faces the Spikes in his third overall pro appearance on the year. Meza picked up a save in two relief outing in the GCL, throwing four shutout innings to finish off a win over the GCL Cardinals in his last appearance on Tuesday. Meza was selected by the Nationals in the 25th round of the 2010 MLB Draft out of Santa Ana (CA) Junior College.
