Mother Nature's Fireworks Postpone Spinners Game

July 4, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MA - The Fireworks show will go on at LeLacheur Park Monday Night to celebrate Independence Day but the game between the Lowell Spinners and Connecticut Tigers has been postponed due to playing conditions after Mother Nature dumped two pop-up thunderstorms on the playing surface prior to the scheduled first pitch.

The game will be made up as part of a single-admission double-header Tuesday, July 5 as part of a special night at LeLacheur with the first game starting at 5:05. The second game will start approximately 45 minutes after the completion of game one, but not before the Human Home Run launches over the outfield wall between Game One and Game Two.

David Smith, Sr., the current world record holder for longest flight by a human cannonball, will launch from behind second base over the Courier sign in right-center field, landing just in front of the Aiken Street Bridge.

Following the second game, the Spinners will have "Kids Run the Bases" and another post-game fireworks show.

Any fan holding a ticket for the Spinners July 4 game may exchange that ticket in person for a ticket of equal or lesser value to any 2011 home game, based on availability. If a fan receives a ticket of lesser value, the fan will receive the difference back in Spinners Dollars. Under no circumstances will tickets for the July 4 game be exchanged straight-up for Spinners Dollars.

For example: If the fan had a $10 ticket and exchanged it for a $6 seat then the fan will receive an additional $4 back in Spinners Dollars. Spinners Dollars can be used at concession and merchandise stands and will expire on December 31 of this year.

Tickets for tomorrow's special doubleheader remain available and can be ordered online at www.LowellSpinners.com or by phone at (978) 459-1702. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Notes: Outfielder Matty Johnson, who was batting .464 (13-for-28) in nine games with the Spinners, has been promoted to Low-A Greenville. Johnson will join the Drive in time for Tuesday's game. He leaves the Spinners with six RBI, two doubles, one triple and five stolen bases, good for fourth in the New York-Penn League.
