Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Greg Nappo struck out 10 batters in just four innings in his ï¬Ârst professional start, but it wasn't enough as Williamsport used three big innings to beat the Jamestown Jammers, 10-2, at Bowman Field Monday night.
Nappo, who was pushed into the rotation after Helpi Reyes was placed on the disabled list, bafï¬âed the Williamsport hitters en route to the 10 strikeouts. He allowed just two hits and one walk to blank the Crosscutters over four innings.
It looked like Nappo would be in line to get his ï¬Ârst professional win as the Jammers ï¬Ânally struck in the top of the ï¬Âfth inning. Ryan McIntyre started the inning with a single and stole second base. Jobduan Morales followed with his ï¬Ârst homer of the year to left to put Jamestown up 2-0.
However, the lead would be short-lived as Nappo was pulled for a reliever to start the bottom of the ï¬Âfth inning. A single, hit batter and walk loaded the bases before Carlos Alonso cleared them with a double to give the 'Cutters a lead. Maikal Franco would rip a double of his own to make it 4-2.
Williamsport would keep adding on with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kelly Dugan had a RBI triple, Taylor Black hit a sacriï¬Âce ï¬ây, and Alonso had another RBI double.
The lead became insurmountable when the Crosscutters scored three more runs in the seventh. Aaron Altherr poked a RBI single to right, and Black connected for a two-run double to account for the offense.
Jamestown brieï¬ây mounted a comeback attempt in the ninth inning with a pair of singles by Brent Keys and McIntyre; however, a double play would end the game and send Jamestown to its ï¬Ârst loss against Williamsport in six games.
McIntyre had two singles to be the only Jammer with multiple hits, while Morales had the two-run homer. Yefri Perez and Pedro Mendoza also doubled.
For Williamsport, Lino Martinez earned the win. He went six innings and gave up just two earned runs to improve to 2-1. Alonso delivered three hits, including two doubles, and four RBI, and Franco, Patrick Murray and Altherr all had two hits with a double.
The two teams will wrap up the series tonight at 7:05 p.m. The Jammers will then return home for the ï¬Ârst game of a three-game series with the Auburn Doubledays on Wednesday.
