Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
The Renegades fell to the Connecticut Tigers, 8-4, Sunday night in front of 4,276 fans at Dutchess Stadium.
For the fourth game in a row a Renegades batter has sent a ball over the outfield wall. In the bottom of the eighth Gerardo Olivares hit his second home run of the season, which brought the team total to 17 (the team total in 2010 was 29).
Renegades starter, Jake Partridge, picked up his third loss of the season. Partridge gave up six runs (two earned) on six hits over 4.1 innings. Wilsen Palacios, the Tigers starter, earned the win after pitching seven innings of five-hit, one-run baseball and striking out six.
The Renegades offense picked up where they left off last night plating the first run of the game in the home half of the first. With two outs and runners on first and second, Tanner Biagini hit a line-drive single to left field allowing Juniel Querecuto to score from second to give the Renegades a 1-0 lead.
The Renegades lead remained intact until the visiting half of the fourth when the Tigers etched four runs to take a 4-1 lead. With the game tied up at 1-1, two outs and runners at second and third Javier Azcona hit his second home run of the season over the left field fence and brought the score to 4-1, in favor of the Tigers.
The Tigers offense continued to roll plating a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to increase their lead to 6-1. Jason King drove a 2-1 offering deep over left field wall scoring Chad Wright from second to give Connecticut a five run lead. In the top of the sixth the Tigers added an insurance run to bring the score to 7-1 in favor of the Tigers.
The Renegades offense attempted a comeback plating two runs in the home half of the eighth. With Querecuto on third, Olivares hit a deep fly ball to left field that deflected off the leftfielder's glove and bounced over the wall to cut the Tigers lead to 7-3.
The two teams exchanged a run apiece in the ninth to bring the score to its final, 8-4, in favor of the Tigers.
