Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - The Connecticut Tigers, powered by two home runs, took down the Hudson Valley Renegades 8-4 on Sunday evening at Dutchess Stadium.

The Renegades took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Tanner Biagini, but that would be just about the only offense Hudson Valley would muster off of Tigers starter Wilsen Palacios.

Palacios won his second straight start with his longest outing of the year, going seven innings and giving up just one run on five hits and striking out six. Palacios also had an impressive string of 14 straight retired batters in the middle of the game.

With runners on first and second in the fourth inning, Patrick Leyland came through with an RBI base hit to tie the game at one. The next batter, Javier Azcona, then put the Tigers on top 4-1, as he blasted a three-run homer to left field, his second long ball of the season.

Connecticut would add a two-run bomb by Jason King, his third homer of the season, in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 6-1 and eventually lead the Tigers to victory.

The Tigers tied a season-high with eight runs scored and their 13 hits came one shy of the season-high. King finished 2-for-5 with a homer, double and two RBI's. Dean Green finished 4-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI, while Curt Casali continued his hot streak going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Jacob Partridge suffered his third loss of the season and dropped to 0-3 on the season for the Renegades.

The Tigers will play the rubber match of the three-game series with the Hudson Valley Renegades tomorrow morning. First pitch is set for 11:05 AM.
