-SPIKES BACK HOME FOR SAWBUCK SERIES ACTION: The State College Spikes return to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park to meet the Williamsport Crosscutters in another edition of the SawBuck Series tonight. The Spikes and âCutters have met four times this season, with the home team winning every contest. Williamsport leads the all-time series, 35-29, but State College has taken 16 of 31 games at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
-LAST GAME: Alex Dickerson delivered his first professional hit with a wall-ball double in the seventh inning, but the Spikes were held to just three hits total by Crosscutters pitching in a 7-0 defeat on Saturday night at Historic Bowman Field. Dickerson, the Pirates' third-round draft choice out of Indiana University this June, was retired on a groundout and a popout in his first two at-bats. The left-handed slugger rebounded to drive a pitch from Williamsport starter Colin Kleven off the outfield fence in left-center field, though, and give the Spikes a scoring opportunity in the seventh.
-ALLIE TOES RUBBER FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Stetson Allie gets the ball for State College tonight. Allie touched 99 miles per hour in his last outing at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park this past Monday, going a total of two innings and allowing two runs. Allie, rated the third-best prospect in the Pirates system by Baseball America before the season, will be followed by right-hander Ryan Hafner on the mound tonight.
-WRIGHT TO START FOR âCUTTERS: Williamsport will go with left-hander Austin Wright on the mound tonight. Wright, an eighth-round draft pick of the Phillies in 2011 out of the University of Mississippi, went 5-4 with a team-high 67 strikeouts for the Rebels. The Schaumburg, IL native has made four starts and five appearances for the Crosscutters this season. Wright lasted just two innings in a no-decision against Mahoning Valley last time out.
