March 2, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- Remy Hamilton, who leads the Arena Football League in scoring by kickers with 58 points and is 11-of-13 on field goal attempts this season, has been selected as the AFL's "Kicker of the Month" for January/February.

The other monthly awards handed out by the AFL today went to Dallas Desperados wide receiver/defensive back Will Pettis for "Ironman of the Month," Utah Blaze offensive specialist Siaha Burley for "Offensive Player of the Month", Austin Wranglers defensive specialist Damon Mason for "ADT Defensive Player of the Month," and Georgia Force defensive specialist Chris Brown for "Rookie of the Month."

Hamilton (6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Michigan), now in his ninth AFL season, is the reigning "Kicker of the Year" and has picked up right where he left off last season when he set a league record for field goal percentage at .744 (29-of-39). Incredibly, his field goal percentage so far this season is even higher at .846. Hamilton also has been near perfect on extra points, missing just one of his 26 attempts. He currently ranks third in AFL history in all-time scoring by a kicker (1,121 points) and career field goals made (144).

Pettis (6-0, 200, Midwestern State) posted 33 receptions for 400 yards and eight touchdowns in the first five games of the season. On defense he added 15.5 tackles, four interceptions and one forced fumble. Pettis also contributed on special teams with 26 kick returns for 457 yards (17.6 avg.). He ranks second in the AFL with 910 all-purpose yards and is tied for second in the league with his four interceptions.

Burley (6-0, 185, Central Florida) leads the AFL in scoring (102 points), touchdowns (17), all-purpose yards (1,003), receptions (54) and receiving yards (771). His 36 points (six touchdowns) and 259 receiving yards in a Week 3 loss to New York are AFL single-game highs for the 2006 season. Burley has added 14 kickoff returns for 232 yards (16.6 avg.). He is currently on pace to record 203 receptions, 2,891 yards and 64 touchdowns, which would all be AFL single-season records.

Mason (5-9, 190, Southwest Louisiana) currently leads the AFL with six interceptions, including five in the first two games of the season. He is just one interception away from tying his single-season high of seven, which he set in 2000 with the Orlando Predators. Mason also has registered 28 tackles and five pass breakups.

In his first five AFL contests, Brown (6-3, 195, Alabama Birmingham) compiled 37 tackles, six pass breakups, four interceptions and one forced fumble. His four interceptions tie him for the most among AFL rookies. Brown earned "ADT Defensive Player of the Week" honors after posting 7.5 tackles, three interceptions and two pass breakups in a 54-34 victory at Las Vegas in Week 4.

The Avengers (1-4) will return to action on Sunday, March 5, when they hit the road to take on the Orlando Predators (3-2) at the TD Waterhouse Centre. Kickoff is set for 9 a.m. (Pacific) and the game will be televised on KNBC Channel 4 (Tom Hammond, Pat Haden, Lewis Johnson). The contest also can be heard on AM 570 (Isaac Lowenkron, Troy West).
