Published on March 2, 2006 under Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
DALLAS WR/DB WILL PETTIS VS. CHICAGO WR/DB JEREMY UNERTL
January/February Ironman of the Month WR/DB WILL PETTIS (6-0, 195, Midwestern) and the Eastern Division leading Dallas Desperados (4-1) battle WR/DB JEREMY UNERTL (6-1, 210, Wisconsin-LaCrosse) and the Chicago Rush (3-2), who are seeking their fourth consecutive win at Allstate Arena this Sunday at noon ET on NBC.
This season Pettis has been a huge part of the offense with 33 receptions for 400 yards and eight touchdowns. He has also dominated special teams, returning 26 kicks for 457 yards, and smothered receivers for 15.5 tackles and four interceptions (tied for second in AFL). QB CLINT DOLEZEL (6-5, 205, East Texas State) has been outstanding, passing for 1,516 yards, 32 touchdowns and only two interceptions.
The Chicago Rush are 3-0 since Unertl was acquired via trade from Columbus (2/7/06). He is tied for second in the AFL with four interceptions (three of which have come since joining Chicago) and has earned Defensive Player of the Game honors for three consecutive weeks. Offensively, QB MATT D'ORAZIO (6-4, 230, Otterbein College) has led the way in the Rush resurgence passing for 23 TDs, leading the League in rushing yards (98) and producing five rushing touchdowns (tied for first in AFL).
LOS ANGELES WR/DB KEVIN INGRAM vs. ORLANDO DS KENNY MCENTYRE
WR/DB KEVIN INGRAM (6-1, 195, West Chester) of the Los Angeles Avengers (1-4) leads an attack against DS KENNY MCENTYRE (5-11, 186, Kansas State) and the Orlando Predators (3-2) at HummerField at the TD Waterhouse Centre this Sunday at noon ET on NBC.
Ingram has excelled on both sides of the ball this season hauling in 36 passes for 501 yards and nine touchdowns on offense, while recording 18.0 tackles and two interceptions on defense. The emergence of QB SONNY CUMBIE (6-4, 225, Texas Tech), who passed for 305 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions in his debut last week, makes Ingram even more dangerous offensively. On defense, OL/DL SILAS DEMARY (6-3, 285, Virginia State), who set the AFL single-season sack record (13.5) last season, looks to break out after a slow start in the first five weeks of this year.
McEntyre, the AFL leader in career interceptions (59) and three-time ADT Defensive Player of the Year (2000-01, 2004), has had a solid season thus far with 24.5 tackles, four pass break-up, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one fumble return for a touchdown (35 yards vs. Tampa Bay in Week 4). Joining McEntyre on defense is DS JEROID JOHNSON (5-9, 186, Oklahoma State) who has recorded 31.0 tackles and one interception.
