Chesapeake Baysox News Release
(Bowie, MD) - The Baysox kicked off a six game homestand with a dramatic win in extra innings Tuesday. Nolan Reimold hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the tenth inning to lead the Baysox to a 5-3 victory over Erie on Baysox starter David Hernandez's 23rd birthday.
Hernandez pitched well on his birthday, allowing two runs on six hits in six innings with no walks and seven strikeouts. Hernandez allowed solo homeruns in the sixth and seventh innings before handing the game over to the Baysox bullpen with a 3-2 lead.
SeaWolves starter Danny Christensen shut the Baysox down for five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. Through the first five innings, he allowed only two hits and one walk. In the sixth inning, Christensen walked Jonathan Tucker to start the inning. He had a count of no balls and two strikes on Carlos Rojas before Rojas worked out a walk over nine pitches. Christensen nearly got out of the inning unscathed after pop-ups by Lou Montanez and Jeff Nettles, but Nolan Reimold and Ryan Finan hit back-to-back doubles to put the Baysox up 3-1.
After Finan's two-RBI double in the sixth, Casey Fien relieved Christensen and retired seven consecutive batters. Ryan Roberson knocked Baysox starter David Hernandez out of the game in the seventh inning when he homered to center field. Jeff Frazier hit the SeaWolves third solo homerun of the game off Baysox closer Julio Manon to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning.
The Baysox threatened to score in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with nobody out. Nolan Reimold reached on a throwing error by shortstop Danny Worth and stole second base. Ryan Finan hit a ground ball back to Worth, and Worth couldn't field the ball. Finan was safe at first on a fielders choice, and Reimold advanced to third on the error. With runners on the corners and nobody out, the SeaWolves intentionally walked Brian Peterson to load the bases. Danny Zell got Kennard Jones to hit a ground ball to first and Ryan Roberson threw home to retire Reimold for the first out of the inning. Blake Davis struck out and Jonathan Tucker lined out to right field to end the inning.
Erie had a chance to take their first lead of the night in the top of the tenth inning. Wilkin Ramirez singled to left off Jason Burch with one out. With Deik Scram batting, Ramirez stole second and the catcher Brian Peterson's throw wound up in center field, allowing Ramirez to advance to third. Scram was then intentionally walked. Scram stole second base with Dusty Ryan batting, putting runners on second and third with one out. Ryan struck out swinging, and Burch got Justin Justice to ground out to end the inning.
Carlos Rojas led off the bottom of the tenth with his second walk of the game. Lou Montanez and Jeff Nettles both flew out before Nolan Reimold hit a homerun to center field to deliver a walk-off victory for the Baysox. Jason Burch earned his first win as a member of the Baysox, Anthony Tomey was charged with the loss.
With the win, the Baysox improve to 21-17 and are now 2.5 games behind Harrisburg in the Southern Division. The Baysox and the SeaWolves will play again Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Jason Berken (3-2, 3.26 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for the Baysox, he will go up against RHP Luis Marte (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
