Portland Bats Come Alive in 7-1 win over Trenton

Trenton, NJ)- Portland pounded out 14 hits and the Trenton pitching staff walked a season-high 12, as Portland coasted past Trenton 7-1 on Tuesday night at Waterfront Park. The win was Portland's first against Trenton this season.

Portland (22-15) jumped on Thunder starting pitcher Dan McCutchen (4-3) early. In the 2nd inning, 3B Ryan Khoury and CF Mickey Hall walked with two outs against McCutchen. Khoury then came home on a two-out RBI single by 2B Tony Granadillo to make it 1-0. Portland added a run in the 3rd inning on an RBI single in the 3rd inning, and increased the lead to 3-0 in the 4th inning on an RBI double by Granadillo. McCutchen went a season-low 4 IP and gave up 6 hits. He walked 5 and struck out 3.

Trenton (24-14) scored its lone run of the game in the 5th inning on an RBI double by P.J. Pilittere off of Portland starting pitcher Michael Bowden (3-3). Bowden went 5 IP and gave up only 4 H and 1 R.

Porltand put the game away with an RBI single by RF Zach Daeges in the 6th inning and three runs in the 8th. The big hits in the 8th inning were an RBI single by 1B John Otness, and an RBI double by DH Aaron Bates. Granadillo and Suarez each had three hits in the win for Portland. RF Jose Tabata had two hits in the loss for the Thunder.

The two teams meet in the middle game of the three-game series on Wednesday morning at 11:05 AM. LHP Phil Coke (2-1, 4.26) starts for Trenton against LHP Kris Johnson (3-1, 3.41).
