BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (28-18-4-1, 61pts) fell 6-4 to the Ontario Reign (21-25-3-4, 49pts), Sunday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Bakersfield led 3-1 in the second period, but a late goal by the Reign broke a 4-4 tie, before they sealed it with an empty-net goal.

The Condors stormed out to a two-goal lead after 20 minutes of play. F Mathieu Aubin got things started with a goal from the right circle, just 1:27 into the game. C Adam Naglich made it 2-0 in the first period with his third shorhanded goal of the season on a breakaway at 5:39. Ontario cut the lead to 2-1, 6:08 into the first period on a goal by D Mike Egener. F Andrew Ianiero tipped home his 11th goal of the season for a 3-1 lead with 6:47 left in the first period.

In the second period, the tides turned in favor of the Reign, who registered three goals in the middle frame to Bakersfield's one. Ontario took a 4-3 lead on goals by F Greg Hogeboom, C Tim Kraus and RW Tony Voce. G Tyler Sims was replaced by G Timo Pielmeier, following the Reign's third goal with 9:46 left in the second period. RW Nick Kemp evened the score at four with 2:25 left in the second period.

Play settled down in the third period, but Ontario struck late to make it a 5-4 game. RW Sean O'Connor stuffed home a puck at the side of the net with 2:41 left in regulation. The Condors pulled Pielmeier for an extra attacker, but C Jon Francisco scored into the empty net for a 6-4 final.

Notes from the Nest: The Condors recorded their 11th shorthanded goal of the season, good for second in the ECHL... Bakersfield failed to score on their lone power play, while Ontario went 2-for-4 on the man-advantage... The Condors lost for the first time when leading after one period (10-1-0)... Bakersfield was out-shot 34-23, just the eighth time all season the Condors have been out-shot... Three Stars: 1. Tim Kraus (ONT); 2. Mike Egener (ONT); 3. Robert Pearce (ONT).

ON THE DOCKET:

The Condors return home next Friday and Saturday for a two-game series against the Victoria Salmon Kings.
