ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and the AHL Manchester Monarchs, were defeated by the Phoenix Roadrunners 2-0 in front of 4,912 at Citizens Business Bank Arena Saturday evening.

The Reign (4-2-0, 8 points) and Roadrunners (4-2-1, 9 points) met for the second match-up between the two teams in two days, in the Reign's third home game of the season and the Roadrunners first on the road. Reign defenseman David Walker and Phoenix left wing James McEwan heated up Saturday's game early as they came out with the gloves off just four minutes into the first period, ending with Walker wrestling McEwan down to the blue line. Phoenix scored the first goal on the night as they wrapped around behind the Reign's net crossing the puck in front of the crease, forcing a shot past Reign goaltender Zatkoff, to put the Roadrunners ahead 1-0 with 15 seconds remaining in the first.

After a scoreless second period and a called off goal by Reign right wing Ryan Bowness, the Reign looked to tie the match in the third out shooting the Roadrunners 21 to 12 in the stanza. Phoenix pushed their lead to 2 at the four minute mark when defenseman Rob Dmytruk found the net off a shot near the right faceoff circle to put the Phoenix ahead 2-0
