Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, N.J. (November 2, 2008) - The Trenton Devils lost to the Idaho Steelheads Sunday afternoon at Sovereign Bank Arena, 3-1. Bryan McGregor scored two goals for Idaho to lead them in the win.
The Steelheads controlled the action for most of the game, outshooting the Devils 38-18 and limiting the Devils to nine shots after two periods of play.
McGregor put Idaho on the board with 1:15 left in the first as his pass deflected off the skate of Ryan Gunderson and into the net past Devils goaltender Jason Smith.
Idaho doubled their lead on McGregor's second goal of the game 2:25 into the second, when his wrist shot from the far circle beat Jason Smith. Ben Nelson added a power play goal 40 seconds later to give the Steelheads a three-goal lead.
With 3:51 left in the second period, Ryan Gunderson fired a slap shot from the point into the top left corner of the goal, putting the Devils within two goals. With the goal, the Devils power play has scored in all of its games to start the season.
Despite the Devils picking up their play in the third period, the Idaho lead proved to be overwhelming as the Devils lost at home for the fourth time in five games.
Making his second straight start, Smith made 35 saves for the Devils, a season-high. Both power plays finished the night 1-for-5.
