Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - On a special night that saw the Victoria Salmon Kings honour the Canadian Forces with a Military Appreciation Night, the Utah Grizzlies faced the Salmon Kings for the third time this week finishing off the three-game set. Goaltender Jonathon Boutin started in net for the Kings while the Grizzlies countered with Mike Mole.

The Utah Grizzlies were first to score with a power play goal halfway through the first period when a James Sanford shot found the back of the net after a scramble in front of Boutin's crease. The game was 1-0 in favour of the Grizzlies after the first period.

The second period saw an increase in grit and intensity from both teams. The Salmon Kings struck first with a breakaway pass from Curtis Billsten to Olivier Labelle. Labelle made no mistake and finished off the pretty play with his team leading 7th goal of the season. The Grizzlies would answer back with a Dennis Packard goal from the slot that rose over Boutin's left shoulder. The score was 2-1 Grizzlies after 40 minutes.

The Salmon Kings didn't waste time in the third, with a quick power play marker from Matt Kelly. The Grizzlies again countered this time with a low slap shot from Tom May. Utah would continue to keep the ball rolling when Tim Verbeek finished off a 2-on-1 passing play with Dennis Packard to increase their lead to 4-2. With a mere 45.9 seconds left the Salmon Kings moved to within one after Chris St. Jacques scored his first of the season with a wrap-around goal on the power play. That would finish the scoring for the night. Grizzlies 4 Salmon Kings 3.

Victoria went 2/6= 33.3% on the power play and Stockton ended 1/4= 25%. The Grizzlies out shot the Salmon Kings 39-34.

The Salmon Kings head to California for a three game tour beginning in Bakersfield on Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. with a school kids game. The team then heads to Stockton for games on Friday and Saturday night. The Kings return home for a two game tilt versus Phoenix on November 14th and 15th. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m.
