Reign Netminder Cannata Named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, are proud to announce that goaltender Joe Cannata is the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Oct. 17-19.
Cannata, 24, was 2-0-0 with one shutout, a goals-against average of 0.50 and a save percentage of .985 last week, helping Ontario complete a three-game sweep of Alaska to open the 2014-15 season. He becomes the first-ever Reign goaltender to receive CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors in the opening week of a season.
Cannata, who is under contract to the Vancouver Canucks, opened the season with 31 saves in a 3-1 win on"ËFriday and followed that up with a 36-save performance on Saturday in a 4-0 win to post his first professional shutout.
A native of Wakefield, Mass., Cannata has appeared in nine career ECHL games with Ontario and Kalamazoo posting a record of 5-4-0 with one shutout, a 2.67 goals-against average and a save percentage of .922. He has also appeared in 43 career American"ËHockey League games with Utica and Chicago where he is 18-18-1 with a 2.75 goals-against average and a save percentage of .910.
A sixth-round selection (173rd overall) of the Canucks in the 2009 NHL"ËEntry Draft, Cannata played four years at Merrimack College from 2008-12.
Reign Drops :
On Opening Night, the Reign will raise its fourth Pacific Division title banner before taking on the Idaho Steelheads on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. The Reign will also celebrate the LA Kings winning the Stanley Cup with Affiliate Night. Ontario players will wear specialty LA Kings-inspired jerseys, sponsored by the University of La Verne, which will be auctioned off immediately after the game to benefit the University's student scholarships. The first 5,000 fans to enter will receive an LA Kings Championship Team Photo and everyone in attendance will receive a season magnet schedule, compliments of Ignite Advertising.
The Reign are then back in action less than 24 hours later when they square off against the Bakersfield Condors on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. for Pink at the Rink Night. The first 5,000 fans will receive a pink mini-pennant, compliments of Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water. A few of the Reign players will also take the ice during warm-ups with special pink sticks that will be autographed and auctioned off during the game in a silent auction to benefit Susan G. Komenî Inland Empire.
