Ontario's Cannata Named CCM ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Joe Cannata of the Ontario Reign is the CCM ECHL Goaltender Week for Oct. 17-19.

The 24-year-old was 2-0-0 with one shutout, a goals-against average of 0.50 and a save percentage of .985 last week, helping the Reign a three-game sweep in Alaska.

Cannata, who is under contract to Vancouver of the National Hockey Hockey League, opened the season with 31 saves in a 3-1 win on Friday and followed that up with a 36-save performance on Saturday in a 4-0 win to post his first professional shutout.

A native of Wakefield, Mass., Cannata has appeared in nine career ECHL games with Ontario and Kalamazoo posting a record of 5-4-0 with one shutout, a 2.67 goals-against average and a save percentage of .922. He has also appeared in 43 career American Hockey League games with Utica and Chicago where he is 18-18-1with a 2.75 goals-against average and a save percentage of .910.

A sixth-round selection (173rd overall) of the Canucks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Cannata played four years at Merrimack College from 2008-12, where he appeared in 122 career games posting an overall record of 59-46-16 with seven shutouts, a 2.47 goals-against average and a save percentage of .915.

Runners Up: Olivier Roy, Idaho (1-0-0, 0.68 GAA, .974 save pct.) and Garret Sparks, Orlando (2-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .973 save pct.).
