Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Chicago Blackhawks, proud NHL affiliate of the Indy Fuel, announced Tuesday that they have reassigned Indy's opening-night goaltender, Mac Carruth, to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League (AHL). A Jackson, Wyoming native, Carruth made 20 saves in the Fuel's 5-4 shootout loss on Friday to the Fort Wayne Komets in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,477 at the Fairgrounds Coliseum in Indianapolis.
"We're thrilled to see Mac earn this opportunity," said Fuel Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Scott Hillman on Tuesday. "[Carruth] is a talented player and this type of player movement is what this level of hockey is all about...We wish Mac nothing but the best in Rockford."
A former seventh-round pick (191st overall) of the Blackhawks in the 2010 NHL Draft, Carruth made seven appearances for Rockford last season, going 2-2-1 with a 3.36 goals-against average (GAA) and a .880 save percentage (S%). Carruth also made 32 total appearances in the ECHL last season for the Toledo Walleye and Florida Everblades. Prior to his time in professional hockey, Carruth was a standout netminder for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL) for four seasons from 2010 to 2013 and helped the Winterhawks claim the 2012-13 WHL title.
Next up for the Fuel, it's a Wednesday night showdown with the Kalamazoo Wings on "Collegiate Night" at the Fairgrounds Coliseum with the opening faceoff set for 7:05 pm. The first 3,000 ticket holders will receive a Fuel magnet schedule and all ticket holders with a valid college ID will receive a $5 concessions voucher. Full coverage of Wednesday's game begins at 6:50 pm on the Fuel's flagship radio station, CBS Sports 1430, with Fuel broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play. Fans can watch Wednesday's game on HTSN with Fuel television broadcaster Jim Mirabello on the call from the Fairgrounds Coliseum.
In 2014-15, the Indy Fuel, the proud "AA" affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs, drop the puck on their first season in the ECHL.
