Ontario Reign News Release
DALY CITY, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (19-7-1-0), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, proved the world didn't end in San Francisco Friday night defeating the San Francisco Bulls (11-17-1-2) for the fifth time this season before a crowd of 2,982 at Cow Palace.
The short-handed goal drought ended when the Reign stormed the Bulls zone on the penalty-kill registering their first short-handed goal of the season. Dan DaSilva and Kyle Kraemer set Colton Yellow Horn up beautifully for his 18th tally of the season. DaSilva picked up the puck from Kraemer and brought it in with Yellow Horn who, after some back and forth with DaSilva, buried the biscuit in an open cage past Thomas Heemskerk's glove side.
With shots staying even through the second frame the Reign took a 2-0 lead as Mario Lamoureux sent a great shot past Heemskerk off a great push from the Reign's offense into the Bulls end. Jason Beeman and Everett Sheen quickly moved the puck out of the neutral zone to set Lamoureux up for his 12th marker of the season.
At 4:46 of the final period, Matt Viedensky finally got the Bulls on the board for their lone goal of the contest as he lifted the puck over JF Berube. The Bulls momentum put the pressure on the Reign as Ontario was outshot 11-3 by the home team. Berube made some of the best saves of the season to fend off multiple Bulls chances including four power-play opportunities throughout the game. With just one second left on the clock, Yellow Horn netted his second goal of the night with an empty-netter.
Three Stars:
1. ONT - Mario Lamoureux
2. ONT - JF Berube
3. SF - Joe Sova
Reign Drops:
The Reign will return home tomorrow night, Saturday, Dec. 22, for game two of their two-game series against the Bulls - the puck drops at 6:00 p.m. This is the Reign's last home game of 2012 so don't miss it!
Be sure to wear your ugliest holiday sweater to the game as the Reign will give a FREE ticket of equal value to those who purchase their tickets at Citizens Business Bank Arena box office while dressed for the occassion (excluding glass and center ice seats). Also, Reign staff members will handpick several contestants with the ugliest sweaters to try and win over the crowd for a special prize from Cole.
