Regan, Thunder Offense Hogtie Brahmas with 6-0 Win

Wichita, KS - Behind solid goaltending from Kevin Regan and a six-goal outburst from the Thunder offense, Wichita (15-7-2) corralled the Fort Worth Brahmas (10-9-3) on Friday night, winning 6-0 at INTRUST Bank Arena. Greger Hanson and Todd Griffith each scored twice in the contest while Regan earned his second shutout of the season. Wichita leads the season-series 3-0-0 with one more game this weekend against the Brahmas on Sunday afternoon.
Wichita grabbed a 1-0 lead late in the first period on a goal from Hanson. The Brahmas were unable to clear it up the wall and a Nathan Lutz shot was tipped home by Hanson at 17:21. The Swedish native recorded his first goal since November 24th, against the Brahmas.
The Thunder offense came alive in the second period, scoring four times and extending their lead to 5-0 after the first 40 minutes. Matt Summers scored 1:10 into the second stanza for his 10th of the season. Six minutes later, Griffith got loose in front of the Brahmas net and tipped home a RG Flath centering feed to make it 3-0. Wichita's fourth goal of the game came from Kevin Young on a five-on-three power play at 12:44. Wichita came into the game without a goal on the five-on-three power play, but Young's one-timer re-directed through traffic past Fogal to make it 4-0. Griffith scored his second of the game at 18:38 to make it 5-0. He got behind the defensemen at the blue line, almost lost the puck and scored on a turn-a-round rebound for his fifth goal of the season.
In the third, Hanson recorded his second of the game with five minutes remaining. He used his speed up the left wing and slid a shot along the ice just inside the left post to make it 6-0.
Hanson recorded his third multi-goal game of the year and now has 10 on the season while Griffith tallied his first multi-goal outing. Flath notched two assists and moves within one point of reaching 200 points for his career. Flath and Painchaud both have 21 points, which gives the Thunder seven players with 20 or more points. Regan won for the 10th time this season, stopping all 22 shots he faced and was named the number one star of the game. His first shutout came back on November 2nd against Missouri, when he stopped 25 shots in the Thunder's 3-0 win.
Wichita went 1-for-3 on the power play while Fort Worth was held to an 0-for-3 performance.
Wichita remains in town on Saturday, December 15th to take on the Tulsa Oilers for their annual Teddy Bear Toss Night, presented by Bank of the West and the Law Office of Slape and Howard. Fans are encouraged to bring a new teddy bear or stuffed animal to the arena and throw them on the ice after the Thunder's first goal.
