Denver Cutthroats News Release

DENVER - The Denver Cutthroats closed the gap to one in the third period, but the Allen Americans held on in the end of a 2-1 final on Friday night at the Denver Coliseum.

The loss snaps the Cutthroats' (14-9-1) five-game winning streak, and drops the Fish three points back of first place Allen (16-5-1) in the CHL standings. Kent Patterson took the loss, snapping his own five-game win streak, despite stopping 29 of 31 shots in net.

Brad Smyth scored Denver's third period goal to close the gap to 2-1 and extend his point streak to a team-high 11 games on the year.

Jarrett Lukin opened up the scoring 1:58 into the first period, deflecting Mike Berube's point shot for his eighth of the season.

In period two, Berube set up another Allen tally from the point as Nino Musitelli was credited with a deflection goal with 3:49 left to play.

Smyth's goal from the left circle was assisted by Luke Fulghum and Gabriel Beaupre. AJ Gale (seven games) and Troy Schwab (six games) each saw their respective point streaks come to an end in the loss.

Aaron Dell earned the win for Allen with a 30-save performance.

Two of the top power play units in the league were held scoreless on the night as the Cutthroats finished 0-for-5 and the Americans went 0-for-4.

The two teams complete their weekend set and season series on Saturday at the Denver Coliseum. Puck drop is set for 7:05 PM MST.

Three Stars:

1. Aaron Dell (ALN)

2. Mike Berube (ALN)

3. Brad Smyth (DEN)
