Former Open Tryout Participant Returns to the Denver Cutthroats
Denver - The Denver Cutthroats announced today that defenseman Phil Tesoriero will be suiting up for his third season with the Fish.
Tesoriero's professional hockey career began at the Cutthroats inaugural open tryouts in August 2012. The Boulder, Colo. native was one of five players invited to attend Denver's main training camp and the only open tryout participant to suit up for the 2012-13 season.
"Open tryouts was a different type of hockey compared to college and I looked forward to the challenge of a higher level when I participated the first year," said Tesoriero. "This year I expect players who are dedicated to the sport of hockey. We had a good season, but I hope to come home with some hardware this year and I am sure that the players trying out would like to be a part of that journey."
He went on to play 62 regular season games in the 2012-13 campaign and notched four goals and four assists. In the playoffs, he played all five games and recorded one assist and four penalty minutes. During his second season with the Denver Cutthroats, Tesoriero played 59 regular season games with seven assists and 34 penalty minutes. He played all 16 post-season games to tally one assist and eight penalty minutes.
"Phil has steadily improved since he became a Cutthroat in 2012, making the team out of the free agent camp," said Denver Cutthroats Head Coach Brad Smyth. "His ability to shutdown opposing forwards and strong level of effort has made him a fan favorite."
Tesoriero will help coach behind the bench at the Denver Cutthroats third annual open tryouts on Friday, August 22 through Sunday, August 24 at Edge Ice Arena in Littleton, Colo. Fans are invited to join in on the fun for the team's inaugural Fan Fest from 12:00 - 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 23 at Edge. Tryouts and the Fan Fest are open and free to the public.
