Reed Homers in Eighth, Drives Away with Victory as Dash Fall 5-4

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash fell to the Greenville Drive by the score of 5-4 in a Wednesday night showdown from Fluor Field.

In the top of the second inning, Luis Curbelo opened up the scoring for the Dash with his tenth home run of the season-a solo blast to center field to put Winston-Salem ahead 1-0. Yoelqui Cespedes followed with a homer to center field in the third inning, boosting the Dash to a two-run lead.

Greenville clapped back in the third inning with some small ball as Nick Sogard sacrificed to right field scoring Elih Marreroand putting the Drive behind by only a run.

The Drive took charge in the fifth inning, ruffling Dash starter Davis Martin in what would be his final inning of work. A walk, a double and a hit batsmen loaded the bases for Tyler Dearden who flied out to left field to bring home Cole Brannen to tie the game at two apiece. After walking Tyreque Reed to load the bases again, Martin allowed a single from Kole Cottam to score Nick Sogard and Cameron Cannon. Greenville enjoyed a 4-2 edge after five innings.

The Dash capitalized on a gift in the sixth inning as Yoelqui Cespedes walked and stole second base before being given a path to third on a throwing error by the catcher Elih Marrero. Yolbert Sanchez drove Cespedes home to put the Dash within one run of tying the game.

Winston-Salem tied it up in the eighth as Yoelqui Cespedes touched the plate on a grounder to left field from Lenyn Sosa.

Tyreque Reed broken the tie in the eighth on a solo moonshot to center field, marking his eleventh homer on the season and the difference maker in a 5-4 Greenville victory.

Yorvin Pantoja (3-0) was credited with the win for Greenville, backed up by Alex Scherff who nabbed his second save on the year. Reliever Isaiah Carranza (1-7) took the loss for the Dash.

The series moves even at 1-1 and continues on Thursday night at Fluor Field. Yusniel Padron-Artilles gets the start for Greenville. Winston-Salem has yet to announce their starter. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. ET.
