Crawdads Defeat Tourists 5-3

Hickory, NC - The Crawdads made it two in a row, taking game 2 against the Asheville Tourists by a score of 5-3. The 'Dads have won four of their last five games.

The 'Dads got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the first. Kellen Strahm led off with a walk and was replaced on the bases as Jonathan Ornelas grounded into a force out at second. Blaine Crim drove his seventh homerun of the season to left to give the 'Dads a pair of runs.

Asheville tied the game up at two a piece in the second inning off starter Cole Ragans. 

Ornelas gave the Crawdads back the lead with a two-run homerun to dead center in the third inning. The lead runner, Strahm, had reached in the previous at bat on a walk.

The Tourists got another run in the fourth inning but still trailed the Crawdads.

The 'Dads added on an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning. David Garcia reached on a fielding error by the shortshop. Jake Guenther delivered an RBI single to give the 'Dads a two-run lead.

Ragans, who was named this afternoon to the American League team in the MLB Futures Game next month, finished his evening after the fifth inning, giving up three earned runs. He earned the win while striking out six and walking none. Justin Marsden tossed two innings of scoreless relief before turning the ball over to Jean Casanova, who recorded his second save of the year. He struck out five batters in just two innings.

Tomorrow evening the Crawdads will be celebrating Halloween in June. Fans can come dressed in a costume can get a $6 ticket. It is also Thirsty Thursday, presented by Sheetz and Focus News, which means that beer and Pepsi products will be discounted and Sheetz members can get a $6 ticket. As part of People's Bank Thursday, fans can also show their membership card for a discounted $6 ticket.
