Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Marlins have announced a pair of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Montgomery Biscuits at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Pitchers A.J. Battisto and Evan Reed have been reinstated from Jacksonville's disabled list and transferred to High-A Jupiter. Both pitchers have been on the Suns disabled list all season long, but will see their first professional action in 2011 in the Florida State League with the Hammerheads.
Battisto was selected by the Marlins in the 30th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Georgia Southern University, and saw action with Jacksonville in 2009 and 2010. Reed was acquired by the Marlins along with Suns starting pitcher Omar Poveda in a trade last season from the Texas Rangers in exchange for Jorge Cantu. Reed pitched in one game for the Suns in 2010, two days after he was traded to the Marlins organization.
The Suns roster remains at 24.
The Suns and Biscuits will play the fourth game of the five game series on Tuesday night at the Baseball Grounds. Wednesday's game will feature "Christmas in August," with Suns fans receiving early Christmas presents, including a 2011 team photo. It will also be "Wicked Wednesday," with ladies receiving two-for-one tickets and all fans can enjoy two-for-one cocktails plus $2 beers from Miller.
Right-handed pitcher Bryan Evans (0-0, 3.38 ERA) will pitch for Jacksonville against Montgomery's right-hander Alex Colome (1-0, 3.38 ERA). Wednesday's game will start at 7:05 p.m. ET, and fans can listen to the contest beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the U.F. & Shands Pregame Show on Jacksonville's WFXJ AM 930 the Fox and www.jaxsuns.com.
