Peoria Chiefs News Release
South Bend, IN. - Chandler Redmond hit two home runs, while Connor Lunn struck out seven batters on the mound to lead the Chiefs to a 5-2 victory over the South Bend Cubs on Wednesday.
After two innings of scoreless baseball, Peoria manufactured the first run of the ballgame in the top of the third inning on a hit-and-run. With Masyn Winn on the move from first base, Jordan Walker's single scored Winn to give Peoria a 1-0 lead.
Chandler Redmond added onto the lead an inning later with an opposite-field solo shot to double the Chiefs advantage to 2-0. ¬â¹ After two walks from South Bend pitcher Alexander Vizcaino, Tommy Jew drove in Aaron Antonini from second base to extend the lead to 3-0. In all, Peoria would send eight batters to the plate in the fourth inning.
Peoria put up two more runs on the board in the top of the fifth inning. Jhon Torres led off the inning with a single to left field. Chandler Redmond followed with a mammoth two-run shot to right field for his second home run of the game. South Bend cut their deficit to four runs in the next half of the frame on a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Jake Slaughter from third base.
