Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND -- After the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks busted their first home series open with a 13-3 on Friday, they got off to a little bit of a rocky start but took advantage of some costly Wichita errors in a 7-3 win on Saturday night. It appeared as if the Wingnuts had control of the game despite a slim 3-2 lead after the top half of the fifth, however two errors in the inning ended up bringing in four unearned runs for Fargo-Moorhead.
After tying the team record with eight RBIs in the previous night's game, Keury De La Cruz drove in two more runs for the 'Hawks without getting a single hit in his four plate appearances. His first came in the first inning when a groundout of his caused Chad Mozingo to score. The Wingnuts answered in the second with Dustin Geiger leading off with a double and then scoring on a single by Harrison Kain. In the fourth T.J. Mittelstaedt blasted a solo home run to claim the Wingnut's first lead of the series. That run was immediately met in identical fashion when Josh Mazzola hit a double and was brought home by an RBI from Luke Bailey to even the game at 2-2.
The fifth inning had Christian Stringer being walked home. Thankfully for the RedHawks they escaped that inning where the bases were loaded with only one out yielding only one run. Things started to unravel for the road team from there, giving up four unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth. Bryan Jones' sacrifice bunt ended up not being an out due to an error, and then he scored the second run of the inning later on another error. Brian Humphries then hit a two-run double to stretch the lead to 6-3.
In the eighth another unearned run crossed the plate when Mazzola reached on an error and was driven in by Ryan Wagner. That insurance run ended up costing closer Travis Ballew a chance to reclaim the league lead for saves, but he still nullified the three batters he faced, striking out two.
