Wichita Wingnuts News Release

FARGO, N.D. - After a rain delay of one hour and 17 minutes Friday night, it was the Keury De La Cruz show for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks as they celebrated their home opener with a 13-3 rout of the Wichita Wingnuts at Newman Outdoor Field.

Fargo-Moorhead (4-4) wasted little time getting to Wingnuts starter Eddie Medina (0-2) as three batters in, De La Cruz started his big night with a two-run homer.

The RedHawks then tacked on five more in the second. Chad Mozingo and Ryan Pineda put together back-to-back singles to make it 4-0, before De La Cruz followed with a three-run shot to cap off the five-run frame.

The home team was not done, adding a second five-run inning in the fourth. This time it was Ryan Wagner and K.D. Kang who drove in runs with singles ahead of yet another three-run round tripper from De La Cruz.

Missed opportunities were the theme of the night for the Wingnuts (2-6). Wichita left two runners on in each of the first three innings, and ended up stranding a season-high 14 for the game while striking out a season-high 14 times.

The visitors were in a 12-0 hole before their offense scratched their first run across in the seventh on a Zack Cox sacrifice fly. The Wingnuts then briefly cut the lead to single digits in the eighth when Brennen Salgado and Christian Stringer each collected run-producing singles.

Fargo completed the rout with a run of their own in the home half of the eighth, as De La Cruz and Josh Mazzola hit back-to-back doubles to make it 13-3.

The Wingnuts and RedHawks continue their three-game set Saturday evening at Newman Outdoor Field. Wichita will send lefty Charlie Leesman (1st start) to the hill, while Fargo will counter with right-hander Taylor Stanton (0-1, 6.35). First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
